Pride Cupcakes

The last few weeks have been so exciting for the LGBT community.

Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell is nearing its final day…
The state of NY has legalized same sex marriage…
There seems to be an increase in glitter protests…

All around, it has been an exciting couple of weeks! What better way to celebrate than with some rainbow pride cupcakes?

I actually made these in June for the wonderful Pittsburgh Pride celebration and am finally getting around to posting it. But with such an exciting week of LGBT events, I think it still fits.

So make some pride cupcakes, hug a gay person, and figure out more ways to throw glitter at Michelle Bachman.

Recipe and an inside picture after the jump…

Everyone Needs Some Pride

In case you didn't know, June is Pride month. I have a really fun Pride food post to share soon but I just couldn't resist sharing this video with all of you today. For two reasons:
  1. It is unbelievably awesome.
  2. This kid is the exact same as me at 9 years old, except he isn't chubby.
What better way to celebrate Pride than a video of boy who can work it out to “Vogue” at 9 years old?

Pride is a time to celebrate everything that makes us special. Since I have no videos of myself as a 9 year old busting it out to Madonna; this is the next best thing. This kid (Robert Jeffrey) is the exact same age as me. His parents took him on a trip to NH as a 9 year old and there was a vendor offering people the chance to lip-sync in front of a blue screen. What we are left with is magical...

I plan to celebrate Pride by recreating this video at every chance I get. How about you?

Happy Pride Everyone!

Chubby Vegans Get Sick

*Achoo*
*sniffle*
*Snort*

I hate being sick… It is the worst. I like to live in a dream world and just think that my awesome vegan immune system rocks and I never get sick. Truth be told, I really don’t get sick that often. But when I do, I am kind of a baby.

I admit it and embrace it.

I want to be nurtured and cared for. I want to lay in bed with my dogs and eat ice cream; preferably Trader Joe’s Cherry Chip. So that is my world today. I am sick and feel gross. Wah! *stomping feet*

So instead of posting an awesome new recipe I am posting an inspirational video today. When the world is cold, if you are sick, if you are lonely, or if you just need some inspiration it always helps to know that there are good people out there who can make it better.

Introducing Iowan Zach Wahls…. Zach is the son of two women who spoke up to the Iowa legislature today in favor of gay marriage. His words are eloquent and strong. He represents the voice of a strong future. He makes me proud of his GAY parents for raising such an amazing kid.

And that, friends, makes me feel better!
